UPDATE: Bicyclist Dies After Fall on Old Town Road

The incident happened at around 11:30 a.m. Friday.

UPDATE, 2:20 p.m. – A Suffolk police spokesperson said a bicyclist traveling on Old Town Road late Friday morning has died from his injuries.

While police initially reported that the accident involved a car, the spokesperson now says the bicyclist, a male of an undisclosed age, may have suffered a "medical event" while riding his bicycle and fell off. An autopsy will be performed to determine the victim's cause of death.

UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.
– The accident on Old Town Road has been cleared and traffic is flowing normally on Old Town Road.

ORIGINAL STORY, 12 p.m.:

Suffolk police are advising that a serious accident on Old Town Road at Arrowhead Lane, north of Route 347, is causing heavy delays in the area.

A police spokesperson said the accident happened at around 11:30 a.m. and involved a car and a bicyclist. One person was taken to a hospital. The police spokesperson said a medical helicopter was initially called, then canceled.
