WATCH: Moving Art Comes To Gallery North

Gallery North's new show is unlike anything it has featured before, according to director Judith Levy. What makes this one so special? Moving art.

"It's fun, it's fascinating, it's mechanical, it's mathematical," she said. "It's art. It's all well-designed."

The exhibition, "The Delight of Movement: Six Kinetic Sculptors," consists of three-dimensional pieces each incorporating a different type of movement. Some are powered with the movement of the air; some are powered by electricity; some are powered by hand.

The shapes and shadows change as you observe.

"It's interesting to hear people talk about it, because they like different things about it," Levy said.

She also said the exhibition is an experience valuable in more ways that one.

"For people who don't really think an art gallery is for them, I think this will invite them into the gallery," she said. "They'll see that coming to an art gallery isn't one-dimensional."

This exhibit runs through May 31. Gallery North is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. The gallery is closed on Mothers Day. An "ArTalk" with curator Philip F. Palmedo is scheduled for May 19 at 3 p.m. For more information, call 631-751-2676.
