The Stony Brook Film Festival will present a special award to Christine Vachon, a producer of the film Deep Powder as well as more than 70 other films. Vachon is also a new faculty member at Stony Brook Southampton, where she will lead the new program 20/20/20 (20 films, 20 filmmakers, 20 days).

Deep Powder (91 minutes)
A boarding school ski club is really a front for a secret society, and a spoiled and reckless member is chosen to make the group's annual drug run to Ecuador. She recruits a working-class local boy and aspiring hockey player as her cohort in this "riveting story of tenderness and suspense" based on true events from the 1980s. Watch the trailer here.

9:30 p.m.

The Wait (96 minutes)
Starring With Jena Malone (Pride and Prejudice, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Chloë Sevigny (American Psycho, Boys Don’t Cry). Set against the backdrop of a slowly spreading forest fire, two sisters believe their deceased mother will come back to life. The film has been described as "a discordant struggle between the sisters ... in a world where the virtual and real converge."
