Single Tickets Go On Sale as Staller Center Gears Up for Film Festival

Annual film festival will kick off July 18.

The countdown to the Stony Brook Film Festival has begun: Single-film tickets went on sale Monday at noon for the 10-day festival that begins July 18.

Single tickets are $9 each, with $7 tickets for senior citizens and students. Whole passes for the full festival are $80, which includes discounts on the opening and closing night parties and perks at area restaurants such as Pentimento in Stony Brook, Kitchen a Bistro in St. James and WAVE in Port Jefferson.

"You'll see films you can't see anywhere else – love stories, war stories, comedies, documentaries and international film offerings that are exceptional and deeply moving," said Julie Greene, a festival spokeswoman. "Filmgoers will find themselves reflecting on the stories and the worlds represented long after the films are over."

Filmmakers and actors are expected to represent some of the films at the festival, including Jena Malone and Chloe Sevigny. Among the highlights of the festival this year are four compelling documentaries:

  • TWA Flight 800, an EPIX original documentary that has been described as "a grand-scale exposé with breathtaking implications."
  • These Birds Walk, a documentary from Pakistan about a home for young runaways;
  • Blackfish, which has been described as "a riveting exposé about the sea-park industry."
  • Muscle Shoals, a rock-and-roll documentary about a small Alabama town.
