(Setauket, April 21, 2012) Gallery North is pleased to present “Gardens”, on view from

May 18 – June 16, 2012.

“Long Island has a fabulous garden climate and good soil because the entire island is one great long glacial dump. Four different glaciers left deep deposits of finely pulverized soil and rock as they melted.” (Page 92. Griswold, Mac, and Weller, Eleanor. The Golden Age of American Gardens. 2000, Harry N. Abrams, INC., New York.)

The following four Long Island artists have dedicated their artistic views to Gardens inspired by Long Island’s garden history. These artists capture the essence of what they see in everyday gardens. Gallery North and the following artists bring spring and the richest garden views indoors.

Bruce Lieberman – My work seeks a relevant, modern vocabulary for my brand of representational painting. I paint in series and for over 30 years, I seem to drift back and forth between similar themes. Ultimately, I am trying to create the greatest paintings that I can make.

Nancy Bueti-Randall – I search for what is not obvious, what is evolving, changing, aging, those fleeting moments that can be seized and connected to the universal and to my emotional experiences. My Landscapes are often about finding patterns in chaos, but also about discovering the hidden and the unexpected.  A subject can catch me by surprise, or can be the result of a long study and exploration, before the actual execution of the painting.  I purposely design my gardens with paintings in mind, though I do not know exactly what I will paint until I see it.  Wandering through a day can bring to my eye a composition or an idea that makes it important to connect with through my work. No matter what the subject is, I often come to my work in this manner.

Anita Lamb – Translating tropical imagery, particularly orchids, using encaustic paints has served to reinforce my interest in the versatility of this medium.  It encourages spontaneity in brushwork, yields surprising results and a very physical, substantial look and feel with saturated colors.

Sung Sook Setton – My subject’s range from the organic to the abstract—from reflections on nature to my innermost thoughts as I listen to music.  The empty spaces in my paintings lend strength to the content and give viewers an opportunity to exercise their artistic imagination.
