“Artist and Pedagogue Christian White will be giving a lecture at Gallery North about color, both as it pertains to perception and as a tool in visual art. The lecture will briefly cover: the physics of light; the mechanics of vision and color perception; the history of pigments; and additive and subtractive color mixing systems. The practical application of color and color theory will then be addressed, with an emphasis on painting technique. There will be a discussion of the ideas of Isaac Newton, Georges Seurat, Joseph Albers, etc. and of course the artist's own ideas about the purpose and meaning of color in painting. The evening will end with a free discussion about color in art, hopefully with the participation of the audience.” C. White.
