Designing Healthy Communities Film Series Kicks Off Thursday

Program will be held at the Setauket Neighborhood House.

The Three Village Community Trust is set to show a series of films along with discussions in a program entitled "Designing Healthy Communities."

The first documentary, "Retrofitting Suburbia," will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Setauket Neighborhood House.

The film series, created by Richard Jackson, the chair of the Institute of Environment, Urban Planning and Sustainability at UCLA, will seek to examine how land use and development patterns determine our quality of life and even our health. Discussions will involve what we want to preserve, what problems we must solve, and what ideas we can adapt from the series.

Donovan Finn, an urban planner who teaches in the Stony Brook University Sustainability Studies Program, will lead the discussions.
