A Smithsonian affiliate museum, right here in our own back yard? You bet.

The Long Island Museum of Art, History and Carriages is a in Stony Brook, and it reopened on March 4 after a nine-week hiatus for the installation of a new exhibit – "Centuries of Progress: America's World Fairs, 1853-1982." The artifact-based retrospective will be on display until May 30, and an exhibit called "The Power of Music" will follow in June.

The museum also offers a full slate of special events related to each of its exhibits, and features several permanent ones, including the Carriage House, Samuel H. West Blacksmith Shop, Nassakeag Schoolhouse and more. Check out a Patch review of at the museum.
