#62 – Attend the Woodlands Folk Festival

Second annual festival is set for Saturday at UUFSB.

The Woodlands Folk Festival began last year as a celebration of music under the trees at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at Stony Brook. This year's festival is set for Sept. 24 at the same location, starting at 11 a.m.

Maria Muldaur, who has earned the nickname "America's First Lady of Roots Music," is the headliner. Joining her is American Idol alum Caleb Hawley, who ; the , another local folk music act; and Sonny Meadows, a humorous political songwriter. Among several other musical acts is Miles to Dayton, a widely known Long Island band, who will be performing and promoting copies of its new album, Pass It On.

The festival also features several children's entertainment acts, including the group CLIMB and singer-songwriters Robbi Kumalo and Johnny Cuomo.

More than 300 people attended last year's festival, and organizers are hoping for around 500 people this year.

The event is rain-or-shine. In case of rain, the musical festivities will be held indoors.
