Murphy Middle School Vying for Top Spot in Safer Schools Contest
Three Village school district has been nominated in a safer schools grant program that could net them $200,000 all they need is your vote, which you can do daily. The school was in seventh place as of Friday morning.

Visit www.stanleysaferschools.com from Nov. 5-Dec. 13 and vote for R.C. Murphy JHS. 

3 Students Selected to Study with Master Violinist

A trio of Three Village students are tops when it comes to strings and have been been chosen to participate in a masterclass with world-renowned concert violinist Midori.

Talented student-musicians Kathryn Leung from R.C. Murphy Junior High School as well as Martin Vaillancourt and Jake Vincel from Ward Melville High School will have the opportunity to learn from Midori during this program on Nov. 10 at the Staller Center Recital Hall. 

Valerie Cartright Wins District 1 Town Council Seat

Valerie Cartright has won the race  for a seat on Brookhaven's Town Council, representing District 1 with 51.65 percent of the vote, or a tally of 5,415 to 5,066.

Cartright will fill the seat left vacant by Democrat Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld who decided not to seek another term.

Romaine, Losquadro Win Big in Brookhaven
Brookhaven's supervisor, highway chief and clerk all won handily on Tuesday, and will oversee the town's highest offices for the next four years.

Supervisor Ed Romain beat Democrat challenger Vivian Villoria-Fisher, picking up 62 percent of the vote will all but 4 districts reporting. Fisher, a former Suffolk County legislator, had decided to take on the freshman supervisor, Romaine, after serving the maximum 12 years in the county legislature.

Hahn Wins Second Term as Legislator

Democratic candidate Kara Hahn has defeated Republican candidate Theresa Laucella in the race for the Suffolk County Legislature's 5th district seat with more than 61 percent of the vote with 51 of 54 districts reporting.

Republican candidate Laucella 41, of Stony Brook ran on the Republican and Conservative lines.

The win will mark the beginning of Hahn's second term as legislator. Hahn, formerly the chief of staff to current Viloria-Fisher, D-Setauket, is the past president of the Civic Association of the Setaukets and Stony Brook. 

Police Seek Serial Robber in Jamba Juice Hold-Up

An armed robbery that took place Monday evening at Jamba Juice in Stony Brook is being investigated by Suffolk County detectives as part of a series of armed robberies that have occurred throughout Suffolk County since the end of October.

The robberies have occurred at seven gas stations located in Eastport, Calverton, Mastic, North Babylon, St. James, Dix Hills and Bohemia as well as the Stony Brook Jamba Juice. No one was injured during any of the robberies.

Disaster Drill Preps District for Large Scale Emergency

Fire trucks, ambulances and first responders filled the parking lot at Ward Melville High School Sunday morning as a large-scale emergency drill unfolded involving simulated smoke and student victims.

The drill was the first of its kind for the district and was called an invaluable training tool by Ward Melville’s Assistant Principal, Mike Owen.

“We learned so much from doing a full scale exercise. It was the closest thing to the real thing you can get,” said Owen.
