Patriots Rout West Islip

On Monday, Ward Melville took a page out of the West Islip Lions’ playbook, scoring five third quarter goals en route to a convincing 11-2 victory at West Islip High School. The win moves the Patriots to 10-0 in conference play (12-0 overall) and left little doubt as to which is the top boys lacrosse team in Suffolk County.

Democratic Committee Screens Fiore-Rosenfeld for Re-Election

Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld, the Democratic councilman serving Brookhaven's first council district, has screened for the Brookhaven Democratic Committee to seek re-election, according to an article published Monday in Newsday. The screening came a day after Suffolk County prosecutors seized Fiore-Rosenfeld's town computers in a probe centered on the use of town computers and equipment to conduct campaign activities, Newsday reported.

Architect Presents Setauket Firehouse Options to Community

The discussion of the future of the Main Street firehouse in East Setauket continued Monday with a presentation of four different concepts at a meeting of the Setauket Fire District's community building committee. At the heart of the discussion was the placement of the apparatus bays, which in each concept was conceived as four double-wide bays that can accommodate between eight and 10 emergency vehicles.

Historical Society Exploring Acquisition of Pre-Civil War Era Barn

The Three Village Historical Society is eyeing an historic barn in Old Field that dates back to the pre-Civil War era, which the Village of Old Field may donate to the organization. According to TVHS vice president Stephen Healy, the organization is ultimately hoping to move the barn to its North Country Road property, then restore it for use as a center for its programs and events.

Kids Palace Closes Its Doors

Another toy shop in the Stony Brook area has called it quits asKid's Palace packs up shop, leaving a vacant storefront, in the Red Mango strip mall on Nesconset Highway.
