Village People: Athletic Director, School Board Trustee Honored

SBU's Jim Fiore Named Athletic Director of the Year. Following Stony Brook's most successful year ever in athletics, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics has named Jim Fiore the 2011-12 Under Armour Northeast Region Athletics Director of the Year. Fiore, a Three Village resident, has been with Stony Brook for nine years. "[He] has energized Stony Brook University’s intercollegiate athletics program beyond any expectation, and he is extremely deserving of this award," university president Samuel L. Stanley Jr. said in a statement.

TVCSD Board Member Lauded. Susanne Mendelson was recently honored as a "Friend of Education" by the Phi Delta Kappa organization at Stony Brook University.

Johnson Appointed to Child Care Council of Suffolk's Board. Dr. Tonjanita L. Johnson, a Stony Brook resident who has served 15 years in the field of higher education, has been named a board member of the Child Care Council of Suffolk, Inc. Johnson currently serves as the chief deputy to President Stanley at Stony Brook University.
