The Great Escape: Relax, Read and Enjoy Three Village's Amazing Views

Patch has found some beautiful spots in Three Village to relax and enjoy a good book.

When was the last time you sat and read a good book during the day? The kids keep us busy all day, and it is so hard to find even just a few minutes to relax and read, let alone a whole hour. One of my favorite ways to escape the kids and the house is to drive to one of a few scenic locations in Three Village, park the car, and just sit and read.

A great way to find this hour or two to get out for yourself is to find a responsible teenager on your block who can come over and play with the kids after school. Even if it is just an hour or two, it is enough time to do something for yourself and recharge your battery.

A few spots in Three Village that I love to drive to and lose myself in a novel:

  • The first spot I am going to share is the Stony Brook boat ramp in Stony Brook Village on Shore Road. The water views are breathtaking and in the warmer months, you can also watch the boats passing in the Sound.
  • Another favorite spot to park and enjoy peace and quiet is the pier on Shore Road in East Setauket behind the This spot also has beautiful water views and is the perfect place to just sit and unwind after a long day with the kids.
  • is the last place I love to go, even in these cold winter months. On a clear day you can see as far as Connecticut across the Sound.

But one thing to keep in mind – and I learned this the hard way – if you are going to have the music on while reading your book, make sure your ignition key is not in the position to drain the car's battery. One afternoon, my relaxing excursion came to an abrupt end when I realized my battery was dead. Luckily, the mechanics at were nice enough to drive out to me and start my car, and I made it back home before dinner recharged, refreshed, and ready to battle bedtime.
