The Dish: Adventures in Chinese Cuisine at New Eatery

Red Tiger Dumpling House opened in Stony Brook earlier this month, and has quickly collected several positive reviews on Yelp. Naturally, that made us curious about its offerings, so we stopped by to test out its fare -- namely, the dumplings. A sign at the counter advises customers that the made-to-order buns take around 15 minutes to cook, and the result is worth the wait.

The Dish: Steamed Crab Meat and Pork Soup Buns ($6.95 for 6)

What's Inside: Ginger spices up a combination of ground pork and minced crab meat served with the broth inside the bun.

Eat This Because: You're seeking an authentic Chinese soup dumpling. Yelp reviewers compared the new eatery to similar places in New York City, and this Patch editor concurs. This savory dumpling is a hit.

Side Dish: The spring rolls (2 for $3.50) are crispy and complement the soft dumplings well. Together, the two items combine for a satisfying lunch under $12.
