Shelter Animal of the Week: Meet Lassie

Lassie is a Collie mix at Save-a-Pet who was rescued from a hoarding situation in Yaphank, but is yet to be adopted.

Lassie is just one of the dozens of animals rescued last June from an animal hoarding house of horrors in Yaphank, where an owner lived in squalor with tons of dogs, cats, birds, and even horses.  Now, she is the last dog from the group that the SPCA saved and brought to Save-a-Pet Animal Rescue in Port Jefferson Station.

Lassie is a six-year-old Collie mix who is affectionate and laid-back. Her favorite things include car rides, playing with people and other dogs, and her foster mother’s brisket (a recipe will be included in her adoption kit). The young girl is agile, and after falling in love with her owner, will be the owner’s shadow.

She would make a great addition to any family or companion for a senior citizen, but would do best in a family without small children. When she was rescued, her fur was incredibly matted, and now she gets scared if her fur is tugged. Lassie would do well in a family with other dogs, but would prefer to be in a home without cats. She also jumps very high, so if she is left in a yard alone and off of a leash, a tall fence is a must.
