Shelter Animal of the Week: Meet Athena

Stop by Save-a-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center in Port Jefferson Station to meet Athena, who is looking for a home.

This week, we are beginning a new regular column that will feature a different adoptable pet each week from Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue in Port Jefferson Station. Our first pet is a spritely young dog named Athena, who was also Save-A-Pet’s Pet of the Month for January.

Athena is a one-and-a-half-year-old shepherd mix who loves to play and be around people. She has graduated from obedience school with flying colors, and walks very well on a leash. Athena also loves the water, and shelter staff say her favorite activities are going in the kiddie pool and playing with the garden hose.

She gets along very well with children, as she lived with them at her previous home. Athena also gets along with other dogs, but she would do best in a home without cats. She is spayed, housebroken, and up-to-date with all of her routine shots. For the owner’s convenience and Athena’s safety, she is also microchipped.

When adopted, her new owners will get the added bonus of seven more weeks of dog training at Hound’s Town in Port Jefferson.

If you think Athena may be the new companion for you, call Save-A-Pet at 631-473-6333, or stop by 608 Route 112, Port Jefferson Station.
