Report: Sailors from Stony Brook Rescue Man in Port Jefferson Harbor

Members of the Setauket Yacht Club's junior sailing program rescued a man who fell into water while kayaking.

Two young sailors from Setauket Yacht Club's junior sailing program threw a life jacket to a man who had fallen into Port Jefferson Harbor while kayaking on Aug. 14, according to a recent story in The Port Times Record.

"Rachel Sorrentino, a 17-year-old Stony Brook resident, said there was no one near the kayak, which was by the barge mooring on the east side of the harbor, so she and the other instructors in her small motorboat went over to investigate," the paper reported.

"We see the man in the water, struggling to breathe," Sorrentino told a reporter. The man appeared to be in trouble so the instructors threw him a life jacket.
