PHOTOS: Town Beaches Still Inundated Weeks After Sandy

The Babylon Town Beaches on the barrier islands still bare scars from Superstorm Sandy.

Waves from Hurricane Sandy took their toll all over Long Island, destroying homes and businesses along the shorelines of various communities, including those throughout the Town of Babylon.

One area of Babylon that had not been seen since the storm struck, though, was the barrier beaches. Suffolk County reopened the Robert Moses Causeway to Captree Island and the Ocean Parkway up to Cedar Beach Marina last week, allowing limited access for residents to those areas.

The beaches, as expected, did not fare well – many tons of sand are missing from the shorelines, dunes have been decimated, debris strewn throughout the beaches and many parts of the Overlook and Cedar Beach bathhouses have been damaged.

What about Gilgo Beach??
Scott Moore November 20, 2012 at 07:39 PM
Gilgo Beach, along with much of the Ocean Parkway near it, is still off-limits for all, including press. We have some videos of the area – much of the Parkway is collapsed and near or in the water.
