PHOTO: UUFSB Celebrates 'HomeComing' Service

Religious institution in Stony Brook began a new year of services on Sept. 9.

The marked the start of a new year of service on Sept. 9 – its 50th year, to be exact.

To celebrate the occasion, the congregation donned a variety of colors to create this rainbow panorama. Rev. Margie Allen said it was an idea she loved that was inspired by another Unitarian Universalist congregation. Members can be seen holding objects that represent the organization, such as hymnals, banners, flags, and the chalice. Between 150 and 180 people are pictured in the photo.

"I just loved the idea of giving people a symbol within which everyone can see their place," Allen said. "It was kind of a symbol of us and all our diversity, not just diversity of color and ethnicity ... but diversity in our skills, our ages, our gender, our sexual orientation, our beliefs, our opinions on social justice."
