This photo of the ongoing construction of Phase 2 of the Setauket to Port Jefferson Greenway Trail was taken by Nick Koridis, a member of the Friends of the Greenway. It shows a view of looking east towards Port Jefferson Station from the sand pits. Charlie McAteer, chairman of Friends of the Greenway, said "the undercourse of blacktop has been installed along with some trees and plantings along the path." The completed trail, expected later this year, will be 3-1/2 miles long connecting Setauket and Port Jefferson Station; Phase 2 will cost $5 million in federal transportation funds and the work is being completed by the New York State Department of Transportation and East Setauket-based Bove Industries.

Another example of why Long Island is taxed to death. Oh yeah, tell me the money was federal and state dollars granted to the project. Who pays those taxes? We all do. How many other boondoggles do we all pay for every day every year? There are so many other places for walkers in this area, did we really ned to spend this money. Oh right, it's that social dream of bringing setauket and port Jefferson closer together in a sense of community. Really?
Hopefully in a few years you'll understand why walking and biking are better then sitting on petroleum burning, noise polluting, illegally used ATV's and Dirt Bikes. Such as global warming, health, and nature and wildlife preservation. Know many slim, healthy, 40 something ATVer's?
