Old Field Doctor Appointed to Hospitalist Post at Mather Hospital

Dr. Michael Tofano will direct a team of health care professionals dedicated to communication about patient care.

Dr. Michael Tofano of Old Field has been named hospitalist director at Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, the hospital announced Friday.

Tofano comes to Mather after serving three years as director of hospital medicine for Marlboro and Clinton Hospitals, UMass Memorial Health Care and associate chief of hospital medicine at UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester, Mass. He has also had a private cardiology practice in Princeton, N.J.

According to a Mather Hospital release, the role of the hospitalist is to "communicate with a patient’s primary care physicians and specialists and handle the patient’s care until they are discharged from the hospital."

Tofano completed his medical degree at New York Medical College and was an internal medicine resident and later chief medical resident at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York. He also held a fellowship in cardiology at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in N.J.

It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!

Another 60,70,80 to be laid off? My vote is NO!!!!
