Oct. 7: Community Meeting, Herbal Medicine, Wolfstock Continues

Here's what's happening in Three Village today.

There's so much happening in Three Village on Thursday that picking five things to showcase was really challenging. In the end, though, what I want you to take away from today's big five is this: no matter what you do, it's a good day to get out and do something.

1. Another community meeting has been called to address the proposed shelter for homeless families on Christian Avenue in Setauket. While last week's meeting was put together by Suffolk County Legis. Vivian Viloria-Fisher, D-Setauket, tonight's was organized by Faiza Akhtar, one of the local activists leading the charge to move the shelter's location. Meeting's at 7 p.m. at Setauket Elementary.

2. Not only has Akhtar called the community meeting, but she's also founded a blog dedicated to the cause. Check back with Three Village Patch at 8 a.m. to learn more about Akhtar's blog.

3. If health is your preferred topic of discussion, head over to Wild by Nature at 7 p.m. for a talk entitled "Herbology 101" by medicinal herbalist Marguerite Dunne.

4. Or you can forget the serious stuff and stop by the Velvet Lounge for a night of crazy karaoke fun. I'd join you myself, but I'll be busy volunteering at Stony Brook University Medical Center for one of Patch's Give 5 days. You can get into the spirit of volunteerism, too, by checking out our announcements and clicking on "Volunteers Needed."

5. With a name like The Collaboration, it has to be good. Ten student organizations at Stony Brook University come together tonight at 7 p.m. at the Student Activities Center to put on a diverse evening of activities and performances as part of Wolfstock 2010.
