Nov. 11: Veterans Day, and Team Championships on the Line

Here's what's happening Thursday in Three Village.

It's Veteran's Day, which means two things: take a few moments to remember the nation's heroes, and remember that lots of places in town are closed. But there's still plenty happening across town.

1. Closures in observation of Veteran's Day include , , town and village offices, post offices and most banks. , however, is in session.

2. Check back later on Three Village Patch for coverage of how our little corner of Long Island honored those who served the country. Maybe even stop by the university to see or consider a donation to our partner charity, the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.

3. Two Ward Melville teams have championships on the line. Top-seeded field hockey takes on No. 3 Sachem East at 2 p.m. at Newfield High School, and No. 2 girls volleyball plays No. 1 Lindenhurst at 8 p.m. at St. Joseph's College, both for Suffolk County large schools championship titles.
