Nominate a Great Three Villager

Three Village is made up of great people. Help us highlight a few from 2013.

The end of the year is nearing so it must be time to break out the 2013 lists, which for us includes highlighting a few of the great folks in Three Village.

But we can't do it alone. Who better than you, our reader, to share with us the people around town who are special. It can be the clerk who always remembers your order and serves it with a smile or the neighbor who shovels you out after the blizzard. Really, anyone you would like to recognize.

Let us know in the comments below or email Jennifer.Sloat@Patch.com. We will tally the votes and announce a winner at the beginning of the year.

The individual named Greatest Person will be featured in an upcoming Patch story.

Maryann and Joe Deriso, the owners of Ann Marie's Farm Stand, on North Country Road in Setauket, are two of the most kind and generous members of our community. The farm stand is a treasure trove of fresh organic produce, home baked goods, fresh eggs and cheese. The stand is run with much love and care. Maryann frequently tells a customer who does not have sufficient cash to pay for a purchase, "You can pay me next time." They contribute regularly to Our Daily Bread at St. James Roman Catholic Church, as well as to the Smithtown Emergency Food Pantry. I know that many local PTA's and other charities and businesses have been beneficiaries of their goodness over the years. They are self-effacing and humble, always willing to lend a hand or an ear, and never advertise their good deeds. They are a true "Mom and Pop" store in our area, and show true care and compassion to all their customers.

I nominate Eddie Schmidt, a remarkable young man from Poquott, as Three Villager of the year. This 20 year old has worked tirelessly to resurrect the Village of Poquott Civic Association from little more than ashes. He and his team of upstanding teenage helpers have brought life to the village once again and continue to strive to improve the community in a multitude of ways. Eddie's accomplishments- from fundraising efforts to simply outstanding social events for Poquott (BBQ for 400 people, beautiful holiday party, fall festival, and much more)- have been incredible. He is charismatic and captivating, an expert communicator, and truly passionate about his community. While other 20 year olds across the country are goofing off, Eddie is using all of his talents and energy to improve the lives of many. I can tell that he is destined for only great things in the future, and will continue to strive to improve not only Poquott but the entire Three Village community in any way he can.
