From Port Jefferson: Vandals Hit Church Sign in Port Jefferson Station

The sign in front of Calvary Baptist Church in Port Jefferson Station was vandalized sometime between 10 p.m. and 4:30 a.m. last night, a church leader said Tuesday. 

The graffiti reads "God Iz You" in orange letters on one side of the sign, while it reads "The Free Spirits" on the other side in black paint. 

From Miller Place-Rocky Point: Bellone Signs Rails to Trails Agreement with LIPA

The pre-construction planning for Rails to Trails - a proposed bike and jogging path running along the Long Island Power Authority transmission lines - is moving forward.

Suffolk Executive Steve Bellone signed a 25-year agreement reached between the county legislature and LIPA on July 30 that will allow the county right-of-way to utilize the underused land to create a route for pedestrians and recreational activities such as jogging, biking and nature walks.


From Smithtown: Smithtown School District Superintendent Abruptly Resigns

Smithtown School District Superintendent Anthony Annunziato announced his resignation at the board of education meeting on Tuesday evening and said he will be joining St. John's University as a professor.

Annunziato, who has been with the district just over one year and has had a 28-year career in education, read a letter announcing his intentions.
