A teen boater was seriously injured by a propeller on Sunday evening while fishing in the Long Island Sound near Mount Sinai, according to Suffolk County Police.

Police said an 18-year-old boy seriously injured his arm after a strong wave caused him to lose grip on the wheel, carrying him overboard and into the boat's propeller at roughly 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

Police have identified the bicyclist struck by a hit-and-run driver as Bradford Packer, 51, of Port Jefferson Station. Packer was riding his bicycle north on Route 112 when a driver traveling west on Route 347 hit him and fled the scene. Police described the vehicle as a light-colored Hyundai sedan that would have significant front-end damage.
