Monday's Cable Outages Frustrate Local Residents

People across the Three Village area reported losing cable, phone and internet service on Monday.

As the rain began to fall on Monday, many residents in the Three Village area reported losing cable television, phone and internet service around 11:30 a.m.

The service outages, though, were not the direct result of the weather: A Cablevision spokesperson confirmed to Patch that a car accident in a nearby area took out a utility pole, causing the service outages.

Cablevision issued the following statement late Monday afternoon: “As soon as we were permitted access to the location, crews were in the field to restore service as quickly as possible.”

However, a Suffolk County police spokesperson said no accident involving a utility pole specifically took place in the Stony Brook or Setauket areas on Monday morning.

Residents expressed their frustration via the Three Village Patch Facebook page.

"My phone, Internet and TV are all through Cablevision...I feel like a hostage!" Jenn Cassano Wolber said.

Alice Hudson commented: "All our services have been out since this morning in the P section. Hope no one was severely injured. That must have been some accident to take out services from Nesconset highway to Poquott."

"Running low on ideas with my 1 and 4 year old boys with this rain and my migraine," said Leslie Dahl.

Folks began reporting to Patch that service was restored starting at around 7 p.m.
