March 11: University's Chemistry Building to Host Landmark Designation

Here's what's happening Friday in Three Village.

It's a renaissance kind of day in Three Village, with a national landmark designation coming to the university, live music and a foreign language program later in the evening, and more.

1. The MRI is such a widely used diagnostic tool in medicine, but did you know its development is tied to the work of a Stony Brook University professor 30 years ago? The American Chemical Society will honor that development with landmark status at a 1 p.m. ceremony at the Chemistry building. Following that, a 3 p.m. symposium at the Wang Center will address the future of bioimaging.

2. The next show in UUFSB's Grounds & Sounds coffeehouse series happens tonight, featuring Claudia Jacobs at 8 p.m. We'll have a Q&A with Claudia coming up later on Patch, so stay tuned.

3. If you've ever wanted to get motivated to learn a foreign language, head over to the library at 7 p.m. for a program called "Cool Things Happen When You Speak a Foreign Langauge." Registration is required, so call the library ahead of time.

5. The Seawolves aren't the only local team that's still alive in the playoffs. The girls' basketball team from , ranked the No. 7 Class C team in the state, takes on third-ranked Haldane (Section I) at 5 p.m. at SUNY New Paltz in the Regional Class C final.
