Local Museums to Participate in New York Museum Week

Special events are planned for the week of May 31 to June 6.

New York State has got close to 2,000 museums, and between May 31 and June 6, the state is facilitating a week of special events, programs and specials to increase attendance at many of those museums.

The is participating for the first time at all of its properties, and the is participating as well.

In particular, the Long Island Museum will kick off its new summer hours on Thursday during this week, and will feature a special event – a demonstration on traditional duck decoy carving – on June 3. Last year, the event saw more than 150 visitors during a three-day span.

"One need not travel far for a culturally and educationally enriching experience," State Sen. Kenneth LaValle, R-C-I, Port Jefferson, said in a statement. "New York’s diverse array of museums, historic homes, zoos and botanical gardens offer something for everyone and every family.”
