Five Ideas for Family Fitness in Three Village

Gather up your troops and stay fit while staying local.

With hectic family schedules and haphazard eating routines, keeping an entire family physically fit may be challenging for some. Here are a few ways to combine fitness with family-friendly fun in Three Village.

World Gym Racquet and Sports Arena

631-751-6100

Offering 13,000 square feet of fitness and cardiovascular opportunities, there is more to this gym than a few treadmills and weights. World Gym Setauket comes complete with a wide array of state of the art equipment; personal training; tennis lessons and court rentals on five indoor and 11 outdoor tennis courts; indoor and outdoor Olympic size pools with swimming lessons available; a full schedule of aerobics, yoga and spin classes; and a sports arena that hosts leagues of all kinds including roller hockey, soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse. Family memberships are $125 per month.

Three Village Historical Society Walking Tours

631-751-3936

Take a walk through history with guided walking tours available through the Three Village Historical Society. For just $5 per person ($3 for members), a little cardio can go a long way; all the way to the 17th century, as a matter of fact, as you explore the history of Setauket by foot, including some of the areas' most historic homes, cemeteries, and architecture. Tours meet at various local locations and typically last an hour and 15 minutes. Information including dates and meeting spots are available on its website.

Pilates at the Pond at Frank Melville Memorial Park

631-689-6146

Leave the conversation for the dinner table and spend some quiet time together, exercising the body and mind. Bring your own mat and come down to the Bates House every Monday morning at 9:30 a.m.

Long Island Kayak Club's Kayak Tours

631-691-2396

Grab your 18+ year olds and head to one of two Three Village locations where you can kayak your way through a guided tour of Long Island's north shore. Leaving out of either Stony Brook Harbor or Conscience Bay in Setauket, these tours require no kayaking experience and equipment rentals are available.  They cost $60 with equipment rental or $25 with your own equipment.

Setauket Woods Mountain Bike Trail

Belle Meade Road, Setauket

With 11 total miles of riding trails, 4.8 of which is a beginner's loop, this single-track mountain bike trail is a perfect place to get your feet wet, or more appropriately, your tires dirty. The entrance is located 100 yards past Island Storage Center (171 Belle Meade Road) on the right hand side.

So, essentially that first residential home is being written off as the price of doing business.Read More There goes that property value. Other than as a professional residence, who would want to live by a driveway for that traffic? As for the entrance Village Automotive, that will bring even more traffic to an already busy intersection nearby. 25A is impassable/impossible in that area for large chunks of the day now.

The rezoning is for the acres of undeveloped residential land across from Ann Maries Farm stand,Read More extending down to the wooded area on 25A. A one way entrance would be placed by Village Automotive and a one way exit would come out on N. Country Rd. adjacent to the first residential house.

Can you tell us where this property is? An address or street name?

I the BOE and Union didn't allow the majority of the budget be spent on benefits and salaries maybeRead More there would be money left for supplies. With declining enrollment and cuts to programs for our kids they only ones making out are teachers and staff with too generous salaries and benefits. Vote no on Tuesday!

Seriously? We are asked to send in enough supplies per kid each year to supply 5 kids. Where does itRead More all go? It gets lost, thrown out, or ends up back in the students home via backpack. The problem is not the lack of supplies, but a lack of personal responsibility. But if we send in enough supplies each year for ten or fifteen students, then we might be able to avoid the underlying problem.

everyone should research what all the school administrators are raking in and the multple levels ofRead More staff that exists at TVCSD. It is beyond reasonable to have salaries at that level and multiple administrators and assistants and directors and assistant directors and chairman etc. Teachers earn their fair share!

Last year we lost 20 staff...this year we are losing over 50 meanwhile the remaining staff isRead More getting a 6% raise...the UNION is eating itself and ruining our school and the BOE is not dealing with the situation..the benefits are up nearly 13% this year...what do you think will happen next year? Another 60,70,80 to be laid off? My vote is NO!!!!
