Library to Delay Opening on Friday

Parking lot improvements on the way.

Parking lot improvements at the Emma S. Clark Memorial Library will necessitate a delayed opening on Friday. The library will open at 1 p.m., as long as the weather cooperates with the renovations.

The Hauppauge-based company Powerhouse Paving will seal cracks in the asphalt as well as address the depressions that have formed around some of the storm drains, according to library director Ted Gutmann.

"We were especially concerned about the depression around the storm drain by the handicapped parking area – that it potentially could pose a safety hazard to someone in a wheelchair – so we felt that we should undertake the work as soon as possible," Gutmann said in an email to Patch.

The library will spend about $10,000 on the parking lot renovations, which were scheduled during a time when no library events were set to take place, Gutmann said.
