Jan. 12: Closures, Weather Updates, and Helpful Phone Numbers

Safe to say the snow threw a wrench in Wednesday's activities.

This space could easily have turned into "five things you would have done today, if it hadn't snowed." Instead, we've tried to fill it with helpful information.

1. School's closed, many businesses are closed, many library activities are canceled, activities like dance class and sports may be canceled, and it may be difficult to get around for errands. Stay in if you can, but if you must go out, here are some .

2. Stay tuned throughout the day for weather updates from Patch, including town reports, resident reactions, fun things to do in the snow, and photo galleries.

3. If your road needs plowing or you need to reach the Town of Brookhaven for assistance, here's a helpful number to call: 631-451-9200. The Suffolk County Police Department runs a non-emergency phone number, too: 852-COPS. And remember to keep nearby fire hydrants clear of snow in case of fire department emergencies.

4. A few local restaurants are participating in what they feel is a worthwhile cause, and the result is a great deal for diners. Check back later for the details.
