The annual I-CON sci-fi convention, which was established 32 years ago at Stony Brook University and has been held at SBU nearly every year since, will not take place on its original dates of March 21 through March 23.
Patch previously reported that the convention was set to move to Hofstra University this year, but now, it likely won't happen in 2013.
In a note posted on the I-CON website, I-CON Science Fiction Inc. president Vince Collura said: "The factors leading to this decision include financial difficulties, challenges in moving a convention our size, and most notably repercussions of Hurricane Sandy and the nor'easter that followed shortly after."
Convention organizers pledged to refund member registration and vendor registration fees, though it presented the option of anyone wishing to opt out of the refund and instead make a donation to the organization could do so.
"While I-CON 32 has been postponed, and no dates are currently on the table, I assure you that the team here is working hard to rebuild I-CON the convention. Our team moves forward with great resolve and heavy hearts," Collura wrote.
