Chabad at Stony Brook Launches Kosher Food Pantry

The service is open to all who are in need.

Chabad at Stony Brook has announced a new partnership with Island Harvest to establish a Kosher food pantry at its Lake Grove home.

In an interview Wednesday, Rabbi Shalom Ber Cohen said the food bank is open to all who are in need, regardless of religion.

"There are people really hurting financially," he said. "We’re happy to be of service to the community."

The food pantry, located at 821 Hawkins Avenue in Lake Grove, is open on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Rabbi Cohen described the food pantry as a discreet one, with no forms to fill out or ID required, and said those who are in need of the food pantry's help are encouraged to take as much as they need.

"We also do a service where we drop off the food to people in need, because often times if people are in need, they also don’t have a vehicle," he said.

Chabad at Stony Brook is accepting monetary donations to support the food pantry and is seeking volunteers to participate as drivers to drop off boxes of food to those in need. For more information, email Foodbank@chabadsb.com.
