A Setauket Elementary School teacher brought the crowd to its feet an a Common Core forum held earlier this month with an impassioned plea to the state's top education official.

While many emotional speeches were given, it may have been Eric Gustafson's that drew the biggest response from the audience. Watch as Gustafson, a teacher of 18 years, addresses New York State Education Commissioner John B. King Jr., imploring him to slow down the implementation of the Common Core. 

Popular Stony Brook Village Eatery Closes Due to Eviction

The eatery that filled the space of the former Brook House in Stony Brook Village shuttered due to an eviction from the property’s management company.

Brian Doyle, an attorney from Farrell Fritz, which represents the Ward Melville Heritage Organization and Eagle Realty Holdings, said Rockwell Cuisine Concepts failed to follow the terms of their lease, which expired in June. According to Doyle, a judge ruled that Rockwell Cuisine Concepts had not properly exercised the option to lease and so they were denied the option to renew.

Police Called to Investigate Death at 150 Christian Avenue

Suffolk County police were called to a well known  student rental home at 150 Christian Avenue earlier this month to investigate a death.

According to a police spokeswoman, a non-criminal death investigation was conducted at the house. Surrounding neighbors told Patch they saw a body being removed from the home.

Stony Brook Athletic Director Abruptly Let Go by University

Jim Fiore athletic director for Stony Brook University was abruptly relieved of his position earlier this month.

President of the university Samuel L. Stanley announced the move in an email sent out to the campus community.
