With Memorial Day weekend just ahead of us, we put together this list of five great beers to accompany your weekend plans. Summer ales typically feature citrus flavors including lemon and orange. Jackie Seydel at Stony Brook Beverage helped us compile the list.
1. Brooklyn Summer Ale. Seydel described this one as her personal favorite. "One of the really nice things about it is it kind of pleases everybody," she said.
2. Blue Point Summer Ale. "Really well-made, easy drinking beer," Seydel said.
3. Long Ireland Summer Ale. Available in growlers for extra freshness, this one has just a touch of the summer citrus flavors.
4. Longboard Lager by Kona Brewing Co. This one isn't a summer ale at all -- just a "really good, lighter, easier drinking hot weather beer," Seydel said.
5. Sierra Nevada Summer Fest. "Well-balanced light lager, slightly hoppy."
