School Coat Drive Benefits Those in Need

Minnesauke Elementary School students and staff members continued to shine as bright as stars this November as they completed a number of activities in line with their Sharing, Trustworthy, Accepting, Respectful and Serving character program. From celebrating World Community Day to helping stamp out bullying by wearing crazy socks, the students aimed to make a difference in the school and community.
As the weather turned crisp, the school’s PBIS Committee (which stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) coordinated a coat drive just before Thanksgiving to benefit those in need. As a result of their effort, the school collected 155 gently used coats. Several of the donations will be benefit local families while the majority will be given to the Children’s Community Head Start programs in Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma.
