Leading Orthopedic Surgeon Joins Internationally Recognized Joint Replacement Practice

Peconic Bay Medical Center, located in Riverhead, is leading the way in healthcare on Long Island offering state-of-the-art quality, comprehensive and compassionate healthcare and wellness services which address specific needs of its communities.  One of the vital programs which the hospital is providing to Long Island residents is its leading orthopedic program.  PBMC's Orthopedic Program is ranked among the nation's best and the hospital is internationally recognized as an Orthopedic Center of Excellence.   Recently Dr. Louis Romeo, considered a leading surgeon in the industry,  joined the PBMC group of exceptionally trained and experienced orthopedic surgeons to become a member of their top orthopedic surgical team. 

 

Dr. Romeo, considered by many to be a pioneer within the industry, has performed over 3,000 successful hip and knee replacement surgeries.  His surgical skills are widely admired by his peers and he is known as the founder of one of the first orthopedic joint replacement programs in Suffolk County.  “Becoming involved with Peconic Bay Medical Center and becoming part of their surgical team is a great opportunity.  It will enable me to continue my mission to provide my patients the highest level of exceptional orthopedic care and service utilizing new technologies and techniques," he added.

Island Orthopaedic and Spine Specialists at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.   He is part of the Krauss Center for Joint Replacement at Peconic Bay Medical Center joining Drs. Eugene Krauss and Michael Ciminiello where his office will be located (64 Commerce Dr in Riverhead).  He also has a satellite office located at 7 Medical Drive, Port Jefferson Station.

 

Dr. Romeo received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University, with a double major in Civil Engineering and Biology. During his final year at Tufts, Dr. Romeo was involved in research at Harvard Medical School in Boston.  He was an intern in General Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed his Orthopaedic Residency at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Dr. Romeo completed a fellowship at Lenox Hill Hospital under the direction of C.S.Ranawat  M.D. in Arthritis Surgery, who is considered a visionary in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery.  Dr. Ranawat was closely involved in the development of the Total Knee Replacement as it is done today and during Dr. Romeo's fellowship, he participated in nearly 500 hip and knee replacement surgeries.
