HOST FAMILIES SOUGHT For STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

In August hundreds of international students will be arriving to begin their studies at Stony Brook University.  The Host Family Program, now in its fourth decade, is a community sponsored program supported by the university.  Its role is to introduce international students who wish to learn more about our culture and way of life to a local American family.  The host invites the student to share an occasional meal, some local sightseeing, or a favorite activity.  The students live on or near campus, not with the host family.
The majority of international students are in graduate programs and are bright and talented young men and women from various countries, especially from Asia.  Both students and host families can have the enriching experience of a cultural exchange and gain a new perspective about the world.  A host may be a retired couple, a family group, or a single individual.  There will be a reception on the Stony Brook campus for the American host families and the new international students.
There are always a shortage of families to accommodate all the students who would like to meet an American family.  If you would like to find out more about the program , contact Rhona Goldman, the coordinator of the program at email: sbuhostfamilies@gmail.com.
