Toy Shoppe of Setauket points the finger at lack of community backing for mom and pops for its decision to head south.
Michael and Shari Zuckerman, owners of The Toy Shoppe in Setauket, aren't leaving town quietly. The couple on Wednesday posted a letter on Three Village Patch announcing that they were closing up shop and moving the business to North Carolina, where they claim the market for mom and pop retail is alive and well, something that can't be said about Long Island, according to them. "This town, like many other Long Island towns, does not support its local stores. Many people in the town refused to step foot in the store for reasons we can’t put a finger on. The sentiment we got was that because we were small, we had to be overpriced. While true we were small, we held our line on price and service the big boys would have been jealous of," they …

East Setauket building is the first privately owned office building in the Town of Brookhaven to reach this level.
The East Setauket headquarters of Stafford Associates is the first privately-owned office building in the Town of Brookhaven to receive a LEED Gold certification, TRITEC Real Estate announced Thursday. The building was completed in March of 2010 and last week received certification as a U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) gold-rated building. Its features include underground water storage tanks, low-flow water fixtures, natural light elements, energy efficient mechanical systems, local materials and recycled or re-used products. Satellite branch was closed while the main HSBC branch remains open less than two miles away.
HSBC customers and even customers of other banks used to be able to take advantage of a remote drive-up banking service located about two miles west of HSBC's main branch at 300 Main Street in East Setauket. But on April 6, the bank shut down the satellite location. New fashion and accessories boutique is open for business.
Mint, a trendy women's boutique that boasts a selection of clothing and accessories for girls as young as 15 all the way up to 65, has opened its doors in the Stony Brook Village Center. The store, located at 119 Main Street, is the fourth Mint location; its others are in Mattituck, Westhampton Beach and New York City. Its hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

Nine eateries in the Three Village and Port Jefferson area are offering deals.
What started out as annual event in November each year since 2006 has grown: a springtime version of Long Island Restaurant Week is now in full swing until April 29. Nine area restaurants are offering a three-course prix fixe dinner for $24.95 per person all night, with the exception of Saturday nights, when the deal is only on until 7 p.m. Participating restaurants include: Click here to access lists of all participating restaurants in Nassau, Suffolk and the East End.

I totally agree with joan. The seafood restaurants as well as others in port jeff are not good anymore. If someone wants to open a quality restaurant that is not over priced they would make a name for themselves fast in this town   more ›
