Occupy Wall Street Hits Three Village

Students are trying to rally for a local offshoot of the protest.

As Occupy Wall Street protests in New York and other major cities around the country pick up steam, small local offshoots are being planned in nearly 1,000 communities – including Stony Brook.

Students at Stony Brook University are trying to drum up support for a local gathering and will hold a meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the college's Student Activities Center for anyone interested in joining their cause against corporate greed and the established financial system, according to many fliers on campus.

Judging by the Meetup page for the Stony Brook rally, the sign-ups are few so far. Only two people say they plan to attend the Oct. 21 rally.
